The ultimate plant-based, anti-ageing alternative for vitamin A. Designed to help promote a more youthful complexion, the lightweight, oil-based serum harnesses the gentle power of 1.25% pure bakuchiol. A clinically proven alternative to retinol that is ideal for those that can’t use vitamin A - eg when pregnant or nursing* as it is not recommended during this time. Bakuchiol Peptides is enhanced with brightening peptide precursors, which help to maintain a glowing, even complexion. The lilac-hued formula is also infused with cica (centella asiatica), an ingredient perfect for soothing inflamed, sensitive skin. Photostable, Bakuchiol Peptides can be used both day and night, for accelerated visible anti-ageing results. Perfect for those looking for a substitute for vitamin A in their CSA routines.

*Of course, due to ethical considerations the Bakuchiol Peptides formula has not been tested on pregnant women, but there is nothing in the formula which is known to be an issue (eg vitamin A or high levels of exfoliating acids). If you are at all concerned, always consult your doctor.

Bakuchiol & Pregnancy
While applying vitamin A topically in skincare hasn’t been shown to cause problems in pregnancy or breastfeeding, as very little gets absorbed into the body through the skin, doctors (and Medik8) recommend avoiding, just in case, due to the known risks of high-dose vitamin A ingestion.

Bakuchiol on the other hand, has been shown to have retinol-like effects but does not have the same mechanism of action as vitamin A so there is no real reason to link the two. We cannot find any documented evidence as to why Bakuchiol should be avoided during pregnancy, and we happily recommend it on that basis.

Many experts including doctors and other brands are stating that bakuchiol is perfectly safe in pregnancy. As most cosmetic ingredients are untested on pregnant women, there is no way of definitively saying anything is specifically ‘safe for pregnancy’ which is why we do not more boldly state “safe for pregnancy”.

  • Helps to stimulate collagen and elastin production
  • Helps to calm and even skin tone
  • Give a visibly brighter, more even complexion to the skin
  • Contains Centella Asiatica to visibly soothe and calm inflamed or sensitive skin
  • Contains Inka Omega Oil for Omega 3,6 and 9 support which can help to restore the skins natural barrier and reduce moisture loss
  • Suitable for use both day and night
  • Can be used by those sensitive to Vitamin A

Bakuchiol: A clinically proven alternative to retinol, bakuchiol helps to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Incredibly gentle, it is suitable for those that cannot usually tolerate vitamin A.

Brightening Peptide Precursors: A lipo-amino acid that can penetrate the natural skin barrier with ease. They stop the action of MSH (melanin stimulating hormone), therefore blocking the production of melanin, for a visibly brighter and even skin tone.

Centella Asiatica: A naturally-derived anti-inflammatory with incredible wound healing benefits on the skin.

Inka Omega Oil: One of the highest, organic sources of omegas among natural seeds. The natural oil can slip into the gaps between skin cells in the stratum corneum to restore the skin’s natural barrier and block moisture loss.

Bakuchiol Peptides helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall skin texture and tone. The conditioning serum is incredibly soothing and calming on the skin, helping to visibly reduce any inflammation and redness. Visibly plumped and supple, the skin is left feeling soft and smooth.

After cleansing in the morning and evening, massage 6 drops of Bakuchiol Peptides across the face, neck and décolletage.

Customers praised this serum as a "great alternative" to retinol, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Shoppers reported it "brightens and brings skin to life," reduces wrinkles, and feels "gentle" without irritation. Most noticed improved hydration and texture. Some customers noted it's "not as effective as retinols" but appreciated the "no red flaky skin" benefit.

This is one of the best serums I have come across. There are so many incredible benefits from it - It brightens and brings my skin to 'life' instantly, as soon as I apply it. I like to do a facial massage on my skin every morning, and this serum provides a perfect texture for it- it is 'lightly' oily but highly moisturizing, it blends so well into the skin, it makes my skin 'alive'. My skin is sensitive and combination between dry and oily but with this serum nourishes it in the right way - it leaves my skin incredibly moisturized, velvety, and plumped up. It makes me feel good :) It is now the primary serum in my skin care, I highly recommend it. Great quality - awesome product!!!

This is a great alternative for those just beginning to use retinol. Its gentle, you wont get the red flaky skin that you normally get when using retinol.

This dramatically changed my skin in a couple of weeks. Reduced my forehead wrinkles and general pigmentation. Feels great on skin and absorbs easily. Great to have an option as an alternative to retinol while pregnant and breastfeeding. I'll be repurchasing this for sure.

I am vegan so having plant based products which are cruelty free is very important to me! Love this, works similarly to how retinal does

While I can't say I've noticed a huge difference since using this, my skin does appear to be brighter in the mornings after I use this the night before. It also feels very hydrating too, so I follow it with just a lightweight moisturiser. Also I should note that my skin can be quite sensitive and I've had bad reactions to quite a few products in the past, but I've had no problems with this one, so gentle!

Would recommend this product to anyone who cannot use retinol. It's a great alternative without all the constraints and side effects of retinol.

When you can't use retinol/retinal for medical reasons this is a great addition. Very effective for wrinkles and lines.

I've been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for the last few years and so I haven't been able to use Retinol despite it sounding perfect for my skin. Enter Medik8 Bakuchiol! Firstly, the texture! It's glorious! And don't even get me started on the colour, it's so pretty! It also makes my skin glow, doesn't irritate me or break me out and seems to be helping with fine lines. It even plays well with other serums. I don't know anyone who doesn't need this!

This definitely isn't as effective as retinols are, but I find this to be a good substitute while I'm pregnant/breastfeeding!
